Bloxham School & International Student Club
Bloxham School is an historic, independent boarding school founded in 1863. Its idyllic campus is situated on the edge of the beautiful Cotswolds in North Oxfordshire. Our partners at ISC have run fun, educational courses for 22 years and are launching their new, exciting programme at Bloxham School in 2020. They welcome students every summer from over 20 different countries with up to 300 students per course.
Bloxham is a fantastic location for a summer school. Set in a picture-perfect village in North Oxfordshire, not far from Oxford and only 120 km from London.
While on campus students have access to a fully equipped sports complex, acres of sports fields, tennis courts, a 25-metre indoor heated swimming pool, fitness studio, climbing wall, theatres, spacious classrooms, arts and food technology facilities. There is also a tuckshop for students to buy snacks and drinks during breaks.
Residential accommodation is in one of the school’s eight spacious boarding houses. Each house has its own unique character with a mixture of modern and more traditional buildings. Single-sex houses can accommodate up to 50 students each. The school provides bed linen and a laundry service. Thereis 24-hour supervision in houses, so staff are never far away should the students need them. Each boarding house has a homely common room, where students can socialise with their international housemates.
The food is plentiful and wholesome and there is always a wide choice to meet all tastes with a choice of meat, fish or a vegetarian option. There is a well-stocked salad bar, pasta bar, soup, fruit and desserts. A range of cooked and cold options are available for breakfast. The fortnightly barbecue is always very popular. General English Programme
Students receive 15 hours of General English, British Culture and Project lessons per week. ISC has an excellent team of experienced, professional and friendly teachers and was awarded a strength for teaching in the British Council inspection. English lessons are interesting and fun and focus on improving communication skills. Students practise all communication skills and pronunciation, but there is a focus on spoken production in order to help students improve in confidence and fluency when using English. ISC has its own range of interactive and interesting course materials, which are constantly updated by the creative teaching team.
In British Culture classes, students learn about the British way of life, food and music. Students also prepare for their excursions, where they can practise all the English they learnt in class. In Project classes, the students work with their international classmates to create a drama Project, which culminates in an exciting Project show at the end of the course.
ISC teachers care about helping each individual student to progress and they use a variety of motivating activities, materials and technology in class. As long as learning is interesting, enjoyable and fun, students will learn and use English to the best of their abilities.
